Technical materials used to build products.

The materials have been used since ancient times to build technical products. From skins to make clothes and shoes, wood to make furniture, iron to make knives, to the stones and clay needed to make houses. Humans have used all kinds of materials from nature to make our lives more comfortable.

Since the mid-20th century, the use of synthetic materials that do not occur in nature, such as plastics, has also increased greatly. These plastics and other similar materials degrade very slowly in nature and create much more significant environmental pollution problems than materials of natural origin.

In this unit we will study how materials are classified, their most important properties, the tools and processes used to transform them, and the social and environmental problems that their use and disposal can cause.
